What reasons drive many more people nowadays -young ones especially- to seek a green, urban ‘haven’ to grow vegetables?
In many British towns and cities, allotments are a fact of life. A piece of land that one rents, usually from the local council. This much everyone knows.
We now also know that gardening is a very therapeutic pastime, and an hour or two in an allotment can reduce our daily stress.
With all that in mind there is no surprise that demand for allotments in urban areas is rising, and with it, the acute shortage of allotment space remains an issue.
Some people will be sitting on an allotment waiting list for years! With so many of us however looking for a space to grow, this isn’t the only solution to grow your own food! This episode will give you tips on growing anywhere and everywhere!
This week Jimmy is joined by Emma Bailey, who documents her allotment adventures on instagram and on her YouTube channel and who, in 2021 won Silver Award for Best Gardening Influencer, in the Great British Garden Awards.
She shares her tips, tricks and techniques for beautiful and productive allotments, as well as ideas on what to grow on small urban back gardens and patios, plus on windowsills and anywhere else you could possibly grow.
