Since D-Day June 1944 in Normandy, Resistance forces in the Périgord harasse and attack German forces. The Resistance are supported by agents of the British S.O.E. (Special Operations Executive) who make them a potent fighting force by supplying weapons, food and training. Three days before the landing of Allied forces in the Provence, the Allied HQ of special forces under the command of the French general Koenig, form a new US commando team and give it the code name “Percy Pink”. The men are from the O.S.S. (Office of Strategic Services; forerunner of the C.I.A.). The plan… is to parachute the Commandos to a DZ (drop Zone) near the village of Cadouin in the Périgord (France). Their mission… to support the French Resistance and hinder all German troop movements. On the night of 11 Aug 1944, three B-24 Liberator aircraft, stationed in England at RAF Harrington, depart for south west France. After a 1000km flight, thirteen commandos and 51 containers of weapons and supplies drop into a secluded field in the Dordogne valley. The dropping is the beginning of joint operations, between French Resistance groups, British agents and the US commandos, to harass and attack the retreating German forces. This documentary, directed by Simon Holland and narrated by Jean Bonnefon, tells the story of life in the Perigord in WW2. For the first time, we tell the full story of French and Allied cooperation. With original archive footage and interviews with the brave men and women, who joined the Resistance to liberate the Périgord and restore democracy.
