How can heritage survive brutal conflict? Since 2011 Libya has seen upheaval and civil war - only now is there some stability. As well as terrible loss of life, large swathes of buildings were damaged and destroyed in the fighting. When Dan Snow visited Benghazi to make our film about Cyrene, we also worked with World Monuments Fund and the British Council to make this film, something out of the ordinary for History Hit, looking at how the conservation of cultural heritage can help a society to rebuild itself.
This is a thought-provoking film, made with remarkable people who realise the value and benefits of heritage, not just in tourist destinations, but in our own neighbourhoods and daily lives.
