🎧 The Letters of Abelard and Heloise
4h 24m
Peter Abelard (c. 1079 - 1142) is considered one of the greatest thinkers of his age. Heloise d'Argenteuil (c. 1100 - 1164) was a gifted theologian and philosopher too. The couple fell in love and were secretly married, but when Heloise's uncle, her guardian, found out, he was moved to inflict a savage revenge. Abelard and Heloise took holy orders and lived apart for a long time, until a stray letter accidently fell into Heloise's hands, causing them to reconnect in a series of correspondence that explore their attitudes to love, their relationship, and religion.
