In 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton set out with a hand picked crew to meet what he described as the last great polar challenge. They would cross the Antarctic continent from shore to shore via the South Pole. It was a daring plan in the most inhospitable place on earth. Intending to walk where no man had trodden before, and hoping to make scientific discoveries, all their plans were destroyed when their ship, Endurance, became locked in the ice. After months adrift, it was crushed and swallowed by the Antarctic Ocean leaving the men drifting for months more on floating sheets of ice. This is an astonishing story of survival and determination in the face of overwhelming odds and all of the forces of nature.
