The Battle of Brunanburh is one of the most important battles in British history. It was fought in 937 between Æthelstan, King of England, and an alliance of Olaf Guthfrithson, King of Dublin;Constantine II, King of Scotland and Owain, King of Strathclyde. English victory at the battle defined the political complexion of the British Isles. But until now no one has known where the battle was fought. Now a group of archaeologists have found a huge amount of battlefield detritus from around the 10th Century. History Hit gained EXCLUSIVE access to the dig this week.
