Spooky castles, misty forests, deadly romance and other such tropes arose simultaneously in the late 18th century in a popular literature genre that we now call “Gothic”.
In today’s episode Kate is joined by Abby Boucher & Daniel Jenkin-Smith to talk about the origins of gothic fiction, how to define it, and touch on the gender dynamics in the books and films throughout the centuries.
Produced by Charlotte Long and Sophie Gee. Mixed by Thomas Ntinas.
