Sir Gawain and the Green Knight was written by an anonymous author in the 14th century. It tells the story of Sir Gawain, a nephew of King Arthur, and one of the Knights of the Round Table at Camelot. During the Christmas festivities, a mysterious green rider enters Arthur's hall and offers a challenge. Sir Gawain accepts it, but it is far from what it seems to be, as is the rider. Gawain is set on a quest to keep up his side of the bargain struck, and to give up his life freely in doing so.
